Family Photographer in Nusa Dua, Bali
Nusa Dua has come a long way from what it used to be. Back in the early 90s, when people talked about Nusa Dua, they were almost always referring to the ITDC resort area, home to iconic properties like the Grand Hyatt, The Westin, Ayodya Resort, Merusaka, and Nusa Dua Beach Resort, with Tanjung Benoa just around the corner. It was already a beautiful area, but the options were fairly contained.
Since the 2000s, Nusa Dua has grown into something even more impressive. The Hilton Bali Resort arrived, which many people still remember as the Nikko Hotel Bali, followed by the Mulia Bali Resort. Then came the St. Regis, the Ritz Carlton, and more recently the Apurva Kempinski, one of the most visually striking hotels in all of Bali. Together, these properties have transformed Nusa Dua into one of the most photogenic resort areas on the island, and honestly one of our favourite places to shoot families.
What makes Nusa Dua work so well for family photography is the variety. Lush tropical gardens, elegant resort architecture, pristine beaches, and manicured grounds all within a short distance from each other. Whether you’re staying at one of the grand beachfront resorts or a quieter property nearby, there’s no shortage of beautiful spots to work with. We usually start the session at your hotel or villa before heading to the beach, so you naturally get a good mix of settings without going anywhere.
When’s the Best Time for Your Photoshoot?
We offer morning and afternoon sessions in Nusa Dua, and both work beautifully depending on your family’s schedule and preference.
Morning sessions run from 6:30 to 8:00am. The beach is calm and quiet at that hour, the air is still cool, and the soft early light is genuinely lovely to photograph in. If your kids tend to wake up early anyway, this is a great option. Sessions move at an easy pace and usually wrap up before the beach fills up and the sun starts getting strong.
Afternoon sessions are best between 4:30 and 6:15pm, when the light softens and everything starts to glow a little. If you’d like a longer session of around 90 minutes, we can start at 4:30pm, beginning at your hotel or villa before moving down to the beach as the afternoon light kicks in. It gives the session more variety and means nothing feels rushed.
A Note on Afternoon Beach Sessions in Nusa Dua
One thing worth mentioning about Nusa Dua is that most of the beaches and resort areas here face South or East. What that means practically is that during late afternoon sessions, the light tends to stay on your faces naturally as the sun moves across the sky. Because of this, most families shooting in Nusa Dua in the afternoon find that a lighting assistant isn’t necessary at all.
That said, we do still offer an optional lighting assistant if you’d like that extra polish and consistency throughout the gallery. It’s entirely your call. Many families are happy shooting in natural light and the results speak for themselves. Either way, we’ll make sure you go home with photos you love.
What Should We Wear?
This is one of the most common questions we get, and the short answer is keep it light and keep it simple. Colours like white, cream, beige, and soft pastels look really lovely against Nusa Dua’s beaches and lush resort surroundings. They photograph cleanly and give the whole gallery a warm, timeless feel. One thing to avoid is grey, it can look a little flat on camera, especially in bright tropical conditions.
You don’t need everyone to wear the exact same thing either. Loosely coordinating your colours usually looks more natural than matching outfits. Think along the same palette rather than the same outfit, and you’ll be in great shape.
Take the Memories Home With You
Nusa Dua has a way of making a family holiday feel genuinely special. The resorts are beautiful, the beaches are well kept, and there’s a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere in Bali. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, spend real time together, and make memories worth keeping.
If you’re staying in Nusa Dua and you’d like to capture some of that time together properly, we’d love to help. Whether it’s the kids running along the beach, a quiet moment by the pool, or the whole family together as the afternoon light fades, we’ll make sure those moments don’t just disappear when the holiday ends.
One thing worth knowing is that some resorts in Nusa Dua require permission for a photographer to shoot on their property. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. In most cases, you just need to mention it at check in and the hotel will point you in the right direction, usually a simple form to fill out or a quick conversation with the guest relations team. We’re happy to guide you through this when you book with us.
