Hayley and her big family enjoyed a beautiful family photoshoot at Villa Sunset in the Balangan area of Jimbaran, Bali. The session felt warm, cheerful, and full of togetherness while everyone spent quality time during their Bali vacation.
Villa Sunset is a nice private villa located near the Balangan area. The property has comfortable tropical spaces and a unique feature on the second floor, a full-size tennis court overlooking the surrounding area. Most of the family portraits during this session were taken around the tennis court area because it offered the best natural lighting inside the villa.
For photographers, lighting is often much more important than how visually impressive a place looks to the human eye. A location may appear beautiful in person, but if the light is too harsh, too dark, or blocked by surrounding buildings, the final photographs may not look as good as expected.
At Villa Sunset, many parts of the property are surrounded by nearby buildings, which limits the amount of soft natural light entering certain areas. However, the second-floor tennis court received much better open light, especially during the right time of day. This is why most of the session focused there instead of other parts of the villa.

I believe many professional photographers would agree that good lighting plays a much bigger role in photography than expensive interiors or dramatic decoration. Soft natural light helps create cleaner skin tones, natural shadows, and more timeless family portraits.
I also want to share one important experience when planning family photoshoots at AirBnB villas in Bali. Many villas have very similar names, and sometimes multiple villas even share almost identical names in the same area. Before your session, it is always helpful to ask the villa owner for the correct address or, even better, an exact Google Maps pin location.
This situation happened during Hayley’s session at Villa Sunset. If you search “Villa Sunset” or “Sunset Villa” around Balangan, you may easily arrive at the wrong property because several villas use similar names nearby. In fact, Balangan itself has more than one villa with a very similar name. Having the correct Google Maps pinpoint can save time and avoid confusion on the photoshoot day.
Even though I do not talk too much about the photography process this time, the session itself turned out beautifully because of the lovely family connection, natural interactions, and comfortable atmosphere throughout the morning.
Thank you again to Hayley and the whole family for trusting me to capture these special memories in Bali. I wish your family happiness, wonderful journeys, and always good health. Hopefully we can meet again someday for another beautiful family session in Bali.
